O primeiro passo que um imigrante (que tem diploma universitário) deve tomar é ter suas credenciais acadêmicas avaliadas. Uma instituição credenciada pelo National Association of Credencial Evaluation Services (NACES: http://www.naces.org) deverá examinar todos os títulos e certificados para verificar a autenticidade dos mesmos.
A proeficiência na língua inglesa poderá ser um requerimento para algumas profissões, como medicina, advocacia, odontologia, engenharia e contabilidade. Além de, que a maioria dos exames são escritos em inglês e o candidato também deverá passar na prova do TOEFL (teste de inglês como uma língua estrangeira – www.toefl.org).
PROCEDIMENTO PARA ODONTOLOGISTAS
Dentistas deverão primeiramente submeter suas credenciais para avaliação pela agência de Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE). Mais tarde terão que passar na Parte I e II do National Board Dental Examination e apresentar os resultados para o American Dental Association’s Joint Commission no National Dental Examinations. Depois deverão completer dois anos de educação suplementar em Odontologia em univerdades aprovadas pelos Estados Unidos, entre outros passos.

Você é um dentista graduado fora dos Estados Unidos ou Canadá?
Se você é um dentist formado em outro país e deseja obter sua licença para praticar nos Estados Unidos, você deve saber que a maioria dos estados requere formação por meio de um programa educacional aprovado pelo American Dental Association Comission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
Como um dentista formado for a dos Estados Unidos e Canadá, você poderá obter um diploma D.D.S. ou D.M.D. dos programas aprovados pelo CODA frequentando um programa permanente avançado nos Estados Unidos. Um programa permanente avançado permitirá a um indivíduo completer o grau de D.D.S. ou D.M.D. em dois ou três de estudos. ADEA oferece um serviço de requerimento que lhe permitirá solicitar múltiplos programas permanentes avançados em somente uma vez. Este serviço é chamado de ADEA Centralized Application for Advanced Placement for International Dentists (ADEA CAAPID®).
Note que nem todos os programas permanentes avançados participam do ADEA CAAPID.
ADEA CAAPID simplificada o processo de solicitação lhe permitindo submeter uma solicitação padronizada ao invés de solicitações individuais para cada programa. ADEA CAAPID está aberta todos os anos de Março à Janeiro.
